Programme Notes

Ellerby wrote the work to mark the 150th anniversary of Edward Elgar’s birth, on a commission from the British Federation of Brass Bands for the 2007 European Brass Band Contest. The variations do not use any of Elgar’s themes; instead they draw on the character of his style.
