Errata
An errata sheet dated 13 January 2026, hosted by the Council of West of England Brass Band Associations (WEBBA), lists 23 items across all three movements. Most add missing dynamics, mutes, phrase marks or metronome marks; a few correct wrong notes. It also says the bells in the second movement may be replaced by glockenspiel or vibraphone. The edition it applies to is not stated. See the errata sheet (PDF).
Programme Notes
Langford wrote the suite in 1979. Its three movements draw on the Brontë sisters and Haworth, the West Yorkshire village where they lived: Top Withens, which evokes the setting of Wuthering Heights; Three Bells, a waltz-like movement whose title refers to the sisters’ pen names; and a movement celebrating the Worth Valley Railway.

Notes
- Grade and duration. No publisher or composer page was found, so both are left empty. World of Brass and Studio Music listings give 12.00 minutes; the 1981 Black Dyke recording runs 12:33. No grade appears on any listing read.
- Publisher. World of Brass names the publisher as Chandos, in its "Chandos Brass Band" series, with code RSCHAN496. CHAN496 is used here because the same code without "RS" appears in both retailers' image file names; World of Brass adds an "RS" prefix to other publishers' codes too. No Chandos page for the sheet music was found.
- Movement titles. Chandos (CD listing) and 4barsrest give "Three Bells"; World of Brass and Studio Music listings give "The Three Bells". Timings are the track times of the 1981 Black Dyke recording (Chandos CHAN 4520), not timings from the score.
- Instrumentation. No parts list or score sample was found, so the section is empty. The retailer listings say the set includes only three solo cornet parts.
- Errata. The errata sheet is linked rather than transcribed, because it does not say which edition it applies to or who issued it. Its PDF metadata names Stephen Hogger as author.
- Media. The Chandos listing names Major Peter Parkes and David Loukes as conductors on the album without saying who conducts which work; the 4barsrest review of the Regionals 2026 CD credits the 1981 Black Dyke recording to Major Peter Parkes. The Regionals 2026 CD's label is not named (the catalogue prefix is DOY), and its release year is not stated. A Black Dyke CD on Presto could not be checked (HTTP 403).
- Contest Use. All 17 set test-piece uses on Brass Band Results are listed, all held. 4barsrest calls the 2026 Regionals "its first use as a set-test", which conflicts with the eight earlier set uses Brass Band Results records at other contests; it probably means the first use at the Regionals. Brass Band Results files the piece under the misspelling "howarth" in its URL. Switzerland is added for the Eidgenössisches Musikfest because Brass Band Results shows a Swiss flag for the winning band; it does not name the contest's country directly.
- Premiere. Not found.
- Studio Music listing (read 2026-11-08). Studio Music names the publisher as Chandos Music, series Chandos Brass Band, part numbers 496 (score and parts, £85.00) and 496Sc (score only, £16.00), and shows Difficulty C - Intermediate and Duration 12.00. Chandos is not a Studio Music imprint, so the letter is a seller's label and the duration a seller's figure; neither is used. The publisher name is left as Chandos.
